Our group threw around lots of ideas for a workshop and decided on the ideas of change, technology and life balance. We are keen to explore the application of technology to learning but want to be able to use technology as a way to empower both the educator and the learning. We are also aware of the many barriers the idea of technology and learning brings up for many educators and we want to be able to present technology as a way to improve the learning process and to help educators in their goal to achieve lide balance.

We want to be able to provide the workshop participants with something concrete that they can walk away and use immediately in their teaching or training and say “That’s an improvement or that saves time!” Educators need to respond to technology in learning and be prepared to take risks, step into the unknown. Education is changing and we need to be equipped with the tools that will help us to adapt and change to best meet the needs of our learners.

On this blog you will find the minutes of our weekly classes held at UTS. Weekly reflections of our group process and decisions and actions as they happen

We are a group of 10 students who are studying the Graduate Diploma in Vocational and Workplace Learning at the University of Sydney (UTS). As part of our course we are undertaking the subject “The Practice of Workplace Learning 2″, guided by our lecturer Laraine Spindler.

This subject extends the developmental strategies encountered in Workplace Practice 1. It uses an action learning/action research methodology to support participant’s capabilities as developers, presenters, managers and supporters of learning goals and functions within particular settings. The subject continues the use of a range of learning processes including reflective practice, negotiated learning and mentoring. Leigh,E “The Practice of Workplace Learning 2: Subject Outline” UTS, 2006

As part of this subject we are required to plan, conduct and evaluate a 4 hour workshop that demonstrates our teaching, training and facilitation practice. We decided to run a workshop on the 22 November 2006, titled “Learning without borders”. The workshop is still very much in the planning stage but we propose to use this blog as a journal of our activities, a forum for developing our ideas, a place to prepare participants before the workshop and a place to post the outcomes of the workshop.

So come along for the ride!
