Group Minutes – Week 4

The Practice of Workplace Learning 2. Minutes 23/08/06.

Present: Kathy Crews, Kathy Gelding, Antoinette, Cecelia, Beth, Gary, Louise, lan,

Artemio, Arlene, Bianca.

Everyone happy with title: Learning without Borders.

At the meeting on 16/8/06 Gary had suggested a timeline to follow, all agreed.

Needs Analysis required, for this we need clear objectives.

Beth will write the ideas on the board.

Last week people were asked to discuss ideas for workshop.

&thy said she had some interest from her colleagues on the subjects of: Podcasting,

Interactive web cam, Hard to know what you want when you don’t know what you

can have.

Balancing work.

Time Management Stategies.

Louise discussed issues of the impact of teachers having to do everything from

administration to filing and projects, full time teaching difficult, fulfilling all roles.

Need to define barriers at work.

Ideas discussed:

What are the questions that should be asked by Teachers.

Survival skills.

Rhetoric and double speak which can undermine the ability to challenge management.

Managing change

Change: Technology and changing work.

Skills needed for enterprise bargaining.

Global context.

Someone may want to look at 010 at Strathfield re video conferencing.

In times of change how do we teach learners to emerge as creative, adaptive,

empowering and open minded people.

In our workshop how do we deliver our message

Possibly participants direct the flow through ideas bought to the workshop.

Ian discussed the intense interest technology raised in the world cafe workshop he

attended.

m Ideas for Needs Analysis:

We need to have a question/ statement that is:

Controversial, challenging, imaginative, flexible and empowering..

We would like a workshop that would help educators, teachers, facilitators and learners

survive and thrive in an evolving workplace.

Learners without Borders proposes a learning experience that discusses looking to the

future while surviving the present.

* Needs Analysis:

Workshop title: Learning Without Borders, our themes are change technology and

balancing work.

We have decided to hand out the Needs Analysis on Friday and Saturday at the assessing

Learning block We will see which of these questions gets the most interest. The

following questions will be put to our target audience:

What excites you about technology?

What frustrates you about technology?

What challenges do you face in balancing work and life?

Please give at least 3 responses.

m Tonette will type the weeds analysis and send it to the group.
