Group reflection – Week 11

Official group reflection for week 11 Learning without borders workshop The group is working well together – like a bunch of happy groupies. In Beth’s reflection she mentioned the use of humour and how this helped workshop discussions. This probably works because our workshop is not a joke! Louise provided what we now term pastoral care in asking how Laraine was feeling. I prefer to call this consideration and care. Strategically minded Art mentioned that tickets should be traded. “I’ll buy yours if you buy mine”. A bit like kids show and tell? Cecilia disclosed a sense of being “duped” – she had purchased a one way ticket. But she seems keen on meeting her marketing challenge. Beth announced she has made contact with Steve. Hooray! You could sense that the room was suddenly full of imaginary ticket tape and balloons! But what was in Steve’s cryptic message? Like an old fashioned serial – will we have to wait for the next episode next week to see how the plot evolves? One of the great strengths of the group is its optimism in terms of a believe that a successful workshop can be conducted even if Steve can not deliver. Is this because of the camaraderie and the fact that contingency planning has been on the agenda for a while? Louise and Kathy C. are often verbally and non-verbally enthusiastic about aspects of the workshop. Is this a reflection of their occupations? Beth and Kathy G. provide sound direction from the Engine Room. Perhaps this is because they are so close to the action that will occur at OTEN. Laraine provides positive feedback and encourages thinking about other possibilities and opportunities. Ian, as previously reflected, seems to have a weekly check list of things to discuss. Is his list to be completed before he heads off to the Caymans? Bianca and Tonette take various notes. Are they noting positive things, things that they’ve learnt or is it merely a weekly shopping list? So we advance head long into next week’s battle clear that the end is in sight. There were smiles all round with mention of a farewell meal. Is there a sting in the tail awaiting us all? And finally where is our other dear learning without borders boarder Arlyn? Questions for critical reflectors > When does reflection turn into hindsight? When is reflection merely procrastination?
