Workplace Learning 2Reflection on group process1 November 2006
To be honest, I was so involved in participating in the conversation about the workshop that I almost forgot that I had to observe the group process. As the date of the workshop is approaching, I noticed that things have picked up speed. There was a subtle shift from group to task maintenance. We are a group of rather flat structure. The Belbin report points out that our group has a higher than average people-oriented professionals. While there isn’t a dominant person in the group, but the group seems to have been functioning well quite naturally. In my opinion, members of the group are capable of leadership when the situation requires. It’s just that none of us chose or wanted to be the leader. It is evident that we all respect each other and would like to keep a warm and friendly atmosphere. Opposing views, or rather, differences in opinion are quite normal in a group process, But conflicts have been rare in our group, let alone argument. We simply are very nice people. Aren’t we? On that note, there was a difference in opinion or disagreement on evaluation of the workshop. But it was handled very well by the group. There was no outburst of any heated arguments. I learned from this experience. Cecilia Cheung
