Practice of Workplace Learning 2
Reflection 30/08/06
Today we seemed to stay mainly on the subject of technology and discussed whether we should talk about learning how to adapt to learning about the new technologies introduced in the workplace so frequently, or provide a workshop on how to use some of the popular things out there- pod casts etc…We also mentioned a little bit about who is out there in terms of possible speakers. Basically, from my angle the greatest concern we have presently is how we are to facilitate our workshop and what aspect of information will be the focus.
As a team we all work really well. Every issue we talked about somebody had a personal anecdote, which kept it interesting and lead onto other issues. Throughout the meeting I noticed that Ian was the process observer as he would bring the conversation back to the main issue. Louise is very big on multitasking as she took the minutes and brought in a lot of important issues. Art is quiet but he nearly always ends up being one of the ones writing on the board, he provides some very helpful ways of organising ideas and objectives into categories- this is what I interpret as active listening, where someone listens to what is going on and responds to that with their own idea about how to set things out or provide some sort of categorisation so things are more clear and distinct. I consider it a bonus for our group to have people who throw ideas around and others who can categorise and put those ideas into point form.
Our team dynamics in a basic sense is very much people who are more outspoken and really give some good things to think about and those who go away thinking about the issues discussed and do a lot of work behind the scenes- Gary’s schedule which has really helped us with a framework in terms of meeting deadlines and making sure things run as well as possible and Arlyn’s email about topics to talk about next Wednesday under balancing work life.
We did spend some time on balancing work life and came to the conclusion that it is a very in depth subject. The way we are considering going about things is relating a lot of the issues that educators face with pressures of technology to workplace pressures- we want to be able tie the issues together from each of the topics under the big subject of change.
Right now we are on track as we have already written out the workplace objectives and sub-objectives- We have been able to meet everything on Gary’s timetable.
